Founded in 2005 by Laura and Glen Reece, The Silken Thread, LLC, provides exceptional embroidery and monogramming services on heirloom quality linens, clothing, and gifts for brides, wedding guests, babies, and children.

For her wedding in 2002, Laura wanted to have her maiden monogram embroidered inside her gown as an everlasting “something blue.” She was unable to locate a quality embroidery service, and settled for a sports embroidery shop in a local strip mall to complete the work. She thought that she could not be the only person wanting a quality monogram of heirloom style from a specialty retailer.

After the birth of their daughter, the couple received several personalized baby gifts. Laura adored the monogrammed bibs and burp cloths, but wanted to take the gift items a step further. And so, The Silken Thread was created to deliver custom monogrammed and embroidered gifts and linens of the highest quality to discerning clients. Products are sourced from around the world, and new fonts, monogram styles, and thread colors are added on a continual basis. Costs are kept to a minimum, and quality is of the utmost importance.

Creative direction and product development at The Silken Thread is under the supervision of Laura, who began her artistic experience at home with her mother, a former art teacher. At an early age she was exposed to art and design from her family’s travels around the world, and she immersed herself in classes in studio art and dance. Prior to developing The Silken Thread, Laura worked for many years in fundraising and special events for several prominent non-profit organizations. Laura holds a B.A. from Emory University and an M.A. from American University.

Glen leads the business, financial, and web development side of The Silken Thread. As an evangelist about software development and the benefits of the internet to Fortune 100 companies, Glen is now bringing his passion to The Silken Thread. Aside from the business, Glen enjoys gourmet cooking, fine wine, and golf. Glen holds a B.S. from the University of Texas at Arlington, an M.S. From Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. From the University of Edinburgh.

Laura, Glen, and their daughter Hannah, reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
